I need an irs email address to find out what happened to my 1040X form filed in 2006 for 2005 returns?

someone filed and claimed my grandchild illegally, and i sent in all proper information to irs, along with my 1040X tax return form. the only response i've received from them is a change of address form to fill out and return, now i want to know the status and need an email address to contact them

Reply:The IRS does not accept emails, you need to speak to them by phone or in person. If your grandchildren were claimed by others and you are able to claim then and have filed an amended return to correct the matter, then call the IRS now. Call 800-829-1040 ask for "accounts" to determine if the 1040X is being worked on. The Holtsville service center is most likely working on the return. You may have to provide them with proof that you have custody of the children and provide more than 50% of the support. Also any court documents to if you were awarded custody of the children by a judge. DO NOT WAIT FOR THEM TO CONTACT YOU.
